Hmmm
Yeah...
Well, Star lets look at death a bit more symbolically and it could be a good thing.
Death to the old birth to the new (?)
Other then that...
I really liked this.

Ok guys...
I am truly apologetic that I came up with this topic, my intention was not to make anyone feel like less of a Christian or person, despite personal beliefs. Honestly.
This is my ultimate intent:
The JW's try to paint the picture that they are true Christians and everyone else is a false Christian or a part of Babylon the Great.
I think that despite your denomination, despite what you believe about Christ, there are some incredibly awesome telling features of what he taught that would mark a Christian (disciple of Christ), and that does not include chronology or date setting or forcing your religious views on another.
Real Christian was used with the idea of the JW's in mind. Someone brought this up.
Being a "real" christian is not a matter of hemlines not a matter of beards not a matter of chronology it's a matter of love...
All the laws that Christ taught are ultimately centered on love. To me anyway.
Sherry...
When I first started mentally leaving the jw's my first thought was Christian Fundamentalism. The idea of my family (despite how they've hurt me) being thrown into hell because they aren't saved bothered me a great deal. Still does. Sometime we should talk because I think there is A lot we could talk about. You're right: you're a loving person but you aren't a Christian. So are all loving persons Christian? Or all Christians loving? ...
What is more important? To me? The love. I think that is what God/dess is looking at. Our love for one another and how that spills over into our everyday life is most telling. We might not be perfect, but it's what I really believe Christ was trying to teach us.
I guess I wanted to try to show... that when Christ taught that it wasn't all the great things that a person did, but it was the love we show to one another as believers and unbelievers, Samaritans and Non Samaritans that would id a person as a follower of Christ. I realize that not everyone has the same belief about Jesus and his teachings, just my viewpoint.
Didn't mean to offend anyone.

Thank you Auld Soul for your thoughts, I really appreciate them.
The one main, biggest, thing that id's a Christian, is the love.
I was reading through the sermon the mount last night, and through it all, the biggest thing that reverberates through it all and through the gospels, is love.
You are right in that the WTS has that pharasaical tone to it.
A true Christian is NOT id'ed by the ability inability to prophesy. They are id'ed by their love.
607 is a non issue to me at this point. Beacause ultimately the WTS lacks greatly in the one area that counts the most:
love

if so, how do you handle it?
i mean, do you think it's safe to give out your name and address?
I have.
But like others, I suggest only giving it to someone you know and trust. Have been burned myself.

yes AuldSoul it truly does!
Thank you!
Think about it, we read how often what "God requires of Us" as told to us by men. So it's pretty safe to say, that a Christian is not id'ed by a denomination, by a style of dress, by a beard or no beard, by a bookbag or a lack of...
I was thinking about this last night...
When I was a jw I would have thought that what made the jws the only true Christian religion are the very things that cannot be supported by scriptures. 607 or no 607, that would not be an id'ing factor of a Christian or group of Christians. (does that make sense?)

Forgiveness seems to be a big indicator.Taking up your 'cross' and following him (not someone else who claims to follow him) is another.
Repentence, too.
Good points. Any clue where we can find them in the Gospels? (thanks bebu)

K...
can anyone think of any other similar scriptures??
This is the only one that came to my mind.
My ultimate point would be, that yes the jw's have their own version of this ...
But going by what Jesus himself taught, we can see what really are the id marks of a Christian.
This scripture is one, anything else, any other scriptures?
thank you ds

John 13:34-35
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; even as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.
I think this is kind of where I'm coming from...

Ok....
Let me rephrase it:
According to the Bible how can a Christian be identified?
Daystar, you are right in that a jw might not agree with this, but I'm curious as to if we use the Bible exclusively to determine how to id a Christian.
In other words...
Do we id a Christian by the ability/nonability (as the case may be) to prophesy? By the cross that they wear?
What is the scriptural marker for a Christian?
